"Lawrence"—Story To Novel

Lawrence, the guy: a sweet, simple youth who takes a stand against bullies in defense of gays, animals, and other targets of oppression.

"Lawrence," the story: a short which reader response and my own internal promptings compel me to turn into a novel. I began the novelization of "Lawrence" in December of 2012, and am 27,000 words into a draft as of March, 2013—which, I figure, puts me about one–third of the way there.

The Story of the Story

I wrote this story a few years back, and it was accepted by a university lit mag— which sat on it for half a year without promising a publication date! Too hot to handle, maybe? To hell with that. I pulled the story back and published it myself on Smashwords in June of 2012. As of this writing, March 20, 2013, the story has been downloaded 416 times and has taken on a viral life of its own.

You may read the short story for free on just about any device other than a toaster by visiting the book’s Smashwords page.

You are also invited to “Like” my author page on Facebook to stay abreast of further developments and view excerpts from the draft as I write this tale which means so much to me and which, I hope, will mean much to others.
